A relative of Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, was shot dead by his brother in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on Thursday morning. The incident took place in Jagatpur village, and the dispute that led to the shooting was reportedly over using a water tap at their home. The altercation also left their mother injured by gunfire.
Police say that the two brothers, Vishwajit Yadav (the deceased) and Jayajit, had a history of conflict. The situation escalated when Jayajit confronted Vishwajit while he was using the tap, claiming it was his. A physical fight broke out, during which Vishwajit allegedly shot Jayajit. In response, Jayajit took Vishwajit’s gun and fired back. Their mother, Hina Devi, tried to intervene but was shot in the arm.
The three were taken to a nursing home in Bhagalpur, where Vishwajit was declared dead. Jayajit remains in critical condition and has been sent for further treatment. The police are investigating the family’s connection to the Union Minister and are collecting evidence from the crime scene. Authorities are also looking into Jayajit’s criminal history.
Locals mention that, although the brothers lived together, they had been at odds for a long time.
