Indian Student Praveen Kumar Gampa Shot Dead in Wisconsin Robbery Attempt

Praveen Kumar Gampa, a 27-year-old student from Telangana, tragically lost his life in Wisconsin on Wednesday, possibly due to an attempted robbery. The incident left his family in shock after an unsettling phone call.

On the morning of the tragedy, Praveen’s father, Raghavulu, received a WhatsApp call from his son, but he missed it. When Raghavulu tried calling back, a stranger picked up the phone and claimed to have found it. This unexpected response immediately raised suspicions. It wasn’t until later that they learned from friends and US authorities what had really happened.

Reports suggest that unidentified assailants opened fire near Praveen’s home, and some friends mentioned that he was shot at a local store. The details of the exact circumstances remain unclear, but Praveen’s body was reportedly found with gunshot wounds.

Praveen had moved to the US in 2023 to pursue a Master’s degree in data science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He was also working part-time at a store when the incident occurred.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed condolences over his death, stating that they are providing support to Praveen’s family and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee during this difficult time. Their message on X (formerly Twitter) read: “We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Praveen Kumar Gampa. Our heartfelt condolences are with his family and friends.”

This tragic loss has left his family and the community grieving, with many still seeking answers to the circumstances surrounding his death.
