Glasgow, Scotland: Friends and community members will gather for a vigil later today in honor of 15-year-old Amen Teklay, who was tragically killed last Wednesday in the St George’s Cross area of Glasgow.

Amen was found injured on Clarendon Street around 10:30 p.m. but succumbed to his wounds at the scene. Following a post-mortem examination, authorities confirmed his death as a murder.

Police Scotland has arrested two teenage boys, aged 14 and 15, in connection with the incident, though investigations remain ongoing. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door inquiries, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The vigil, organized by Amen’s friends, will take place at a local football park in Scotstoun, where he often played. Jamie O’Neill, a youth support worker at Kingsway Community Connections, described the gathering as an opportunity for friends and the community to grieve and support one another.

“The past few days have been filled with grief, shock, and shared memories of Amen’s kindness and bright personality,” O’Neill said. “His school friends wanted to do something meaningful, and the vigil is their way of paying tribute.”

Originally from Eritrea, Amen lived with his father in Glasgow and had recently been granted ‘right to remain’ status in the UK. He attended St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and aspired to be a basketball player, doctor, or engineer.

His sister, Delina Teklay, 17, described him as not just a brother but her best friend. “He was such a kind and bright person, always full of dreams,” she said.

Police continue to treat Amen’s death as an isolated incident, keeping an open mind regarding the motive. Det Supt Cheryl Kelly emphasized the importance of community cooperation, stating that “the answers lie within the local community.”

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to reach out via the major investigations public portal.
